Signing in to Cajole and managing your account

Cajole supports four ways to sign in: email and password, Google, Apple, and Facebook. You can link multiple methods to a single account so you always have a way back in. This article covers how each one works, how to manage them in Account Settings, and what to do if something looks unfamiliar.

Sign-in options

On the login screen, you can sign in with any of these methods:

• Email and password — the classic approach.

• Sign in with Google — uses your Google account.

• Sign in with Apple — uses your Apple ID.

• Sign in with Facebook — uses your Facebook account.

The "Last used" badge

A small yellow "Last used" pill appears next to whichever method you signed in with most recently on this device. It is a hint to help you find your usual button quickly. The badge is per-device — switching to a new browser or computer will not show it until you sign in there at least once.

Managing your sign-in methods

You can link multiple sign-in methods to a single account. This means you do not get locked out if you lose access to one of them — a great idea if Cajole is something you care about keeping access to.

To manage your linked methods:

1. Open Account Settings.

2. Click the Connections tab.

You will see a row for each method:

• Email and password — shows whether you have a password set.

• Google — Link or Unlink.

• Apple — Link or Unlink.

• Facebook — Link or Unlink.

Linking a new method

Click Link next to any provider. Cajole sends you to that provider to authorize, then brings you back. Once you return, that method is added to your account and you can use it to sign in next time.

Unlinking a method

Click Unlink next to any linked method. Cajole will not let you unlink your only sign-in method — you have to keep at least one usable way to get back in. If the Unlink button is greyed out, hover over it for an explanation.

Setting a password if you signed up with Google, Apple, or Facebook

If you signed up via a social provider, you may not have a password yet. Adding one is a good idea so you have a backup way in. To set one:

1. Account Settings → Connections tab.

2. Click Set password on the Email and password row.

3. Enter a strong password and confirm it.

4. Click Save.

After this, you can sign in with email and password OR with the providers you have linked.

What if your email is already on another account?

If you previously signed up with email and password, then later try to "Sign in with Google" using the same email address, Cajole notices the match and prompts you to confirm the link.

You will see a modal that says "An account already exists for d***@yourdomain.com. Confirm your password to link Google to it." Enter the password for your existing email/password account. After confirming, Google is linked to your account and you can use either method going forward.

Apple is special — it sometimes hides your email

Apple does not always share your real email address with apps. This is by design (Apple's "Hide my email" feature). When that happens, Cajole cannot match Apple to an existing account, so a new one gets created.

If you already have a Cajole account and want to add Apple to it, do this instead:

1. Sign in to your existing account using email/password or Google.

2. Go to Account Settings → Connections tab.

3. Click Link next to Apple.

4. Authorize on Apple's consent screen.

You'll be brought back to Cajole with Apple now linked to your existing account — no new account, no name prompt.

Your name on Cajole

Your first and last name appear on your campaigns, profile, and anywhere your name shows up to other users. We need this set before you can fully use the platform.

When Cajole asks you to enter your name

If you sign up via Apple, Apple may not share your name with us. In that case, when you arrive at Cajole, a "What should we call you?" modal will pop up asking for your first and last name. You will not be able to dismiss it — entering your name is required before you can continue.

After you save your name, you will see the Terms of Service screen if you haven't accepted them yet. Once both are done, you're fully set up.

Editing your name later

You can update your name from Account Settings at any time:

1. Open Account Settings.

2. Open the Account tab.

3. Click Edit next to Name.

4. Update first and/or last name.

5. Click Save.

Troubleshooting

"Account with this email address already exists"

You are trying to sign up with an email that already has a Cajole account. Sign in to that account instead, or reset its password if you can't remember it.

"What should we call you?" modal won't go away

You signed up with Apple and Apple did not share your name with us. Enter your first and last name in the modal, then click Save. The modal will close.

"Set a password first — [provider] is currently your only way to sign in"

You are trying to unlink your only remaining sign-in method, which would lock you out of your account. Set a password from Account Settings → Connections tab → Set password, then come back and unlink.

Apple Sign In creates a new account every time

Apple stops sharing your email after the first authorization, which makes it hard for Cajole to recognize you on subsequent sign-ins. If you want Apple to be linked to your existing account, sign in via your existing method first, then link Apple from the Connections tab. If you want a fresh start with Apple, you can revoke Cajole at appleid.apple.com (Sign-In and Security → Sign in with Apple → Cajole → Stop using Apple ID), and Apple will treat your next sign-in as the first time.

I see "There was an error processing your request" with no detail

Cajole shows a more specific message when it can. If you see only the generic message, try the action again — sometimes a brief network hiccup. If it persists, contact us at help.cajole.com so we can investigate.
